Building my vocabulary

A few new words and terms I've picked up this week:

Heavy freezing spray
Local ground blizzards
Thundersnow
Blowing snow advisory

Is it just me, or does a local ground blizzard sound way worse than the normal kind of blizzard?

"Thundersnow" goes too far for me. It sounds like a lame super-hero name. I think the meteorologists are getting carried away. The weather here is already a horrific new adventure every day; they don't need to come up with new words to make it sound exciting.

But the picture of the Yahara river IS very pretty!

local ground blizzard sounds like a personalized blizzard. it's just for you - right in your own front yard!
